When I was a kid, my parents sent me off to a shrink after their divorce.
In our first session, he told me I was “angry”.
And then I got angry that he thought I was angry.
Ever prove someone right by trying to prove them wrong?
This happens all the time when we try to control other people’s opinions of us.
People will have all kinds of opinions about you.
They will think they know you better than you know yourself.
They will think they know what’s in your best interest.
No matter what you do to control their opinion or change yourself so that they like you more,
There's always going to be THAT person who feels insulted by your existence just because.
Nothing you can do about that.
You don't know why people like you or why they don't like you.
When you try to control other people's opinions of you, what ends up happening is that you don't even end up showing up as yourself.
